To successfully launch your new legal career, you want an articling program that will help you grow as a lawyer, provide you with a broad and rich learning experience and offer you the flexibility to chart your own path... and you want it all from a leading national law firm. You want Gowling WLG.

Gowling WLG offers exceptional articling programs to students who have completed their law degree studies and are preparing for admission to the Bar. We want our articling students to be the future leaders of our firm, and so we dedicate ourselves to providing the most valuable, practical and rewarding experience possible.

Articling students learn and experience the practical aspects of law from some of the country’s best and most recognized lawyers. With more than 30 practice areas spanning most of Canada’s key industries, Gowling WLG offers unsurpassed opportunities for students who already know their specialty and those who are still deciding.

One of our greatest rewards comes from investing in our students and helping them grow. In addition to hands-on experience, Gowling WLG is committed to providing you with professional development opportunities throughout the articling experience. Our student education and training programs include a variety of ‘how to’ seminars on topics tailored to a new lawyer’s needs. Training sessions and seminars include areas such as drafting motions and memoranda, legal research and writing, interviewing and negotiation techniques, conducting examinations for discovery and delivering winning presentations.

One of the advantages of working for Gowling WLG is the opportunity to ‘test drive’ different practice areas. Gowling WLG offers articling students the chance to chart their own path, and will generally strive to accommodate individuals who are seeking extended experience within specific practice groups. Our students enjoy flexible rotation schedules that provide the broad base of knowledge and hands-on skills they need to successfully launch their careers.

As a student at Gowling WLG, you will gain practical experience by doing work that matters. We try to give our students a bit of everything. Your work experience could include drafting pleadings, commercial agreements and opinion letters; preparing motion records and arguing motions; attending examinations for discovery and mediations; attending closings; assisting at trials and appeals; and meeting and working with clients.

As part of the formal learning experience, our students receive an evaluation of their work, as well as informal feedback as often as possible. In addition, our students are linked with a Principal for individual support on things like litigation basics, courtroom deportment, conducting a closing and practice management skills.
